Challenge
M/V Blandine's SWL 10-tonne monorail provision crane needed to be dismantled, rebuilt and reinstalled, but the vessel could not be pulled off her container line schedule to have the work done, ruling out a standard extended yard stay. A provision crane is part of a container vessel's regular cargo and supply handling, so leaving it out of service for an open-ended rebuild period was not an option either.
Approach
YEKE's shore team dismantled the crane and rebuilt its structure and mechanism at the workshop, away from the vessel, then reinstalled the rebuilt crane on board during the window between M/V Blandine's scheduled port calls rather than requiring a dedicated yard period.
Outcome
The rebuilt monorail crane was returned to service without disrupting M/V Blandine's container line voyages, with the dismantle, rebuild and reinstall sequence fitted entirely around the vessel's existing schedule.
